Soon the 2008-2009 school year will be officially done for me. For Insight of MN the school year ends on June 11th and I must say it has been a great school year. I have had a great time with Insight! Even though there were some minor problems through out the year I had no major problems. As I have said before every school has its little problems every now and than. Insight has been a great school and I am definitely going back next year. I have had the luxury of knowing some super nice teachers who have also made it a really good year. If you are thinking about going to Insight next year I definitely recommend it.  If you are going to be going to insight or any online school next year I have a really important tip for you. You must have plenty of motivation if you want to do online schooling. I and a lot of the people that I have talked to at insight ran in to motivation problems every now and than. Lack of motivation odiously results in overdue assignments and every now and than I have this problem. Just make sure that you find ways to keep yourself motivated and you will do fine. I think that online schooling is a awesome way to learn and if you are interested in other forms of education you should definitely checkout online schooling.

State Testing

Hi Everyone! Sorry I have not posted for a while. Anyway today was the day i had my state test, oh no!!! Insight is a public school and has to follow public school requirements. All or most insight MN students are doing state testing this week and i just like everyone else am not fond of state testing. Although It was not to bad considering I had the GRAD writing test which is just a test in which you write a one or two page paper. Other grades have the math, reading, and science tests. I do not know what grades get which tests but whatever I’m done until a year from now. Some of the kids I know in higher grades that took the math test are saying they had to do part to day and the other part tomorrow so I fell sorry for them. Students around MN have different testing locations based on where they live at. The closest one for me was Brooklyn Center, MN which is only one town over from me and it takes like 15 minutes to get there so that was good. The place where I took my test was right next to Insight MN’s main office so That was nice i guess. I don’t really know too much more about the tests.

english class discussion

Hi everyone,

OK so each week we have a discussion question in a type of forum setting and below is this weeks question and my response. I am putting this on here because i think it has to do a lot with the discussion of this blog.

~Question~

Discussion Question: Harper Lee was not complimentary about public education in this novel. What do you think about the traditional public school system in this country? Why?

~my response~

I think the traditional public school does have its problems but I love insight and that is a public school so the whole public school system isn’t flowed just parts of it. I think the traditional public school system has a few major problems and it think the main cause today is money. money affects a multitude of things. I think that public brick & morder schools have a big lack of funding that makes for not as good school resources, over sized classes, and just a overall problem. One of the big reasons I left my school was because of a lack of funding and voters turning down a tax increase which caused the district to close schools, fire staff, increase class sizes, and use older torn up school books. So to sum up I think the traditional public school system has some problems it needs to address. I think the main problem lays with the voters. I mean to think people will vote down a small tax increase to better education but will vote a majority of yes for a even bigger tax increase to build a new sports stadium. I think it’s sad that our society sometimes elevates sports above education.

OK so that’s my response. If you would like reply with your response to the discussion question or comment on my response if you would like.

Hi everyone,

it has been a while since my last post but here it is. It is now Semester 2 at insight and i am loving it. Their are a few changes in angel this semester that are minor but i am loving them. One change is that instead of the teachers adding participation points at the end of the semester and me not being able too see it because i have already lost access to that semester. Angel is now set up so that participation points are added every week and that means I can monitor the points I am given  and make sure everything looks OK. Another thing added was for phys-ed. Now instead of me submitting my fitness logs via email i can do it in angel and track the points I am giving so that is very nice. That’s about it for new features but there provide a major help. One thing I have noticed this semester is that everything and everyone have for the most part got in to place and understand what is happening.  Which means a lot of the things I didn’t like last semester our for the most part resolved. Angel is still a little buggy and I still think it could be a little more maneuverable but nothing major or anything wrong with it. I can live with it. So this Semester I am taking orientation to art, English, phys-ed, algebra, physical science, and world history. The only different one is art and I am liking that, it’s a nice class. Art is set up different from the rest of the classes so I had to get used to that but its a nice class. So I have said it before but I am liking this school, It has its bugs but what school doesn’t. Also as i said this semester appears to be more organized and less buggy that last semester. I think most of the things I didn’t like were due to it being the school first semester.

Winter break is here, 2 weeks of no school! As for me I will still be doing some school work to ketch up on my work and get ahead. I will be heading for Disney world late january so getting a head is something I really have to do so that I do not get behind. But thats OK it will be nice to get ahead. So far 2 day in to my break I am ahead in Phy-ed  and tomorrow I plan to get ahead in science and so on after that. But obviously I will not be doing any work on christmas or christmas eve. The nice thing about online school is I still have all the schools resources no mater if its weekday, weekend, or some kind of break. That comes in really useful. also I almost forgot to mention I got my school ID card and thats pretty cool. So far insight is going great. I am loving insight and having a great school year.

insight MN has activated clubs, Yea! I have joined 2 clubs the technology club and the NASA club. So at this point I don’t know much about the clubs but so far I know that most of the clubs have a weekly meeting through Elluminate. My next and first club will be on monday. I think these clubs are a really good idea. They let us have more chat time with other insight students and talk about what we like which is cool. also I noticed that my NASA club meeting has a blog for all students to post to and comment on which I think is really cool and something I probably would of never thought of. something odd though is that the tech club isn’t showing up but i figure it probably hasn’t been configured yet or something so I will see what will happen with that. so thats about it at this point. I will post the clubs insight of MN is offering so that you can get a look at what’s available.

I know I have not wrote an entry lately so here I go. Back on the 13th of November my world history class went on a field trip to to the history museum of Minnesota. I had a very good time. I got to meet my world history teacher and other insight staff and they were all pretty cool people. It was very nice to meet everyone and see some other students. I had a very good time it was a very fun field trip. So just to talk about insight i have to say everything is going great and i am enjoying my time at insight and having a lot of fun. Now in the blog I have had a few complaints about insight but I just want to say the I have always thought insight was a very good school. Every school has its problems especially high school and no school is perfect. As a matter of fact nothing is perfect and everything in life has problems. But despite the fact I have had a few mild troubles with insight, I still think insight is a very good choice for online schooling. But just remember online school does not work for everybody. Now I have had a few troubles with angel and I still think it is a system that needs work but you get used to it and it does get the job done. Most of the problems I have had with angel have for the most part been fixed now, the problems were just mostly a few early glitches. So i just want to say I have always enjoyed insight it is a great school with a great Curriculum. And as i have always said if you are thinking about online school go with insight. Insight is a great, fun, and rewarding school. I have had a great time with insight. This is all what I really think and what I have always thought.
